His Highness Mkhutshwa Solly (Saul) Mabena, was born on May 20, 1965, in Allemansdrift B, a place known as KwaMbhongo at Allemanskraal. He is the third child and the second son of the esteemed Late King William Mbhongo II and the revered Late Queen Helen Sonengani Mabena. His heritage is deeply embedded in the traditions of the Manala Mbhongo people, and he has carried this legacy forward with dedication, wisdom, and an unshakable sense of duty to his people. His early life was shaped by the values of responsibility and industriousness, instilled in him by his family and community. He began his education at Mbhongo Combined Primary School, continuing on to Babutheni Higher Secondary School, where he not only excelled academically but also embraced the diverse aspects of cultural and physical activities. From a young age, His Highness demonstrated a strong connection to the land and the traditional practices of his heritage. He was an accomplished hunter and livestock herder, roles that allowed him to build a deep connection with the land and the rhythms of rural life. In addition to these skills, he was a talented artist, known for his skill as both a painter and draftsman.

A passionate sportsman, His Highness enjoyed playing soccer and was a valued player for both the Black Bombers FC and his school’s team. His talents extended to volleyball, where he represented his school, and he was also a committed boxer, martial artist, and member of the school choir. These early pursuits reveal his dedication to physical excellence, discipline, and teamwork—qualities that would define his leadership in the years to come.

Upon completing his matric, His Highness began his career in the Missionary Centre of Saterland, where he worked as a clerk. This role allowed him to serve his community while developing administrative skills that would later benefit his work in leadership. His commitment to education continued when he took on a position as an assistant teacher at Sizabantwana Higher Primary School, where he influenced and inspired the next generation. Driven by a desire for personal and professional growth, he pursued higher education at UNISA and later honed his artistic skills at Open Window School of Fine Arts (College of Fine Arts).

His Highness’s dedication to public service took root early, and his career has been marked by his tireless advocacy for his community. As the Headman Coordinator under the Manala Mbhongo Traditional Council, he played a pivotal role in ensuring the welfare of his people and the preservation of their customs. His political involvement is equally distinguished. He was a key figure in the Mnyamana Action Committee executive, served as the Local Chairperson for the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC), and held leadership positions with the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) and the Klipfontein Development Forum. His contributions extended to his role as the Branch Chairperson for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and as a valued member of the African National Congress (ANC). His dedication to the people’s rights and development has left an indelible mark on the social and political landscape of his region.

In 1989, His Highness joined Regiment AMAGAWU, further underscoring his commitment to safeguarding his community and his nation. Beyond his public service, he has been a devoted husband to Her Highness Letty Khabonina Mahlangu, and together, they are blessed with two daughters and one son. The pride of his life includes his role as a grandfather to two beloved grandchildren, with whom he shares the values and traditions that have shaped his life.

Through his life and work, His Highness Mkhutshwa Solly (Saul) Mabena has become a respected leader, not only as the Chairperson of the Manala Mbhongo Traditional Council but also as a guardian of cultural heritage and a tireless advocate for his people’s development. Her Highness, Letty Khabonina Mahlangu Mabena, has lived a life steeped in service, tradition, and dedication to her family and her people. Born with a strong sense of duty and commitment, she has gracefully balanced her role as a family matriarch with her responsibilities to the Ndebele nation, embodying the values of resilience, humility, and unwavering loyalty. Her early years were shaped by a solid foundation in education and a sense of industriousness. She began her schooling at Bhekimfundo Primary School, where she distinguished herself with her earnestness and dedication to learning. Later, she went on to complete her matriculation at Mandlethu High School, gaining the knowledge and skills that would serve as the bedrock for her future contributions to her community.

In 1996, Her Highness entered the workforce, taking a position at a dry-cleaning facility in Pretoria. For four years, she worked diligently, embodying the values of discipline and hard work that she has since passed on to her children and grandchildren. This role provided her with valuable life lessons about perseverance and humility, qualities that she has carried forward into her life as a leader and role model.

In 2001, she married His Highness, Solly (Saul) Mkhutshwa Mabena, joining him in a partnership marked by mutual respect, shared values, and a steadfast commitment to serving their people. Together, they have built a legacy grounded in tradition and community. Their union has been blessed with three wonderful children—two daughters and a son—each of whom has been raised with the utmost respect for Ndebele traditions and the importance of family. As their children have grown, Her Highness has proudly taken on the role of a grandmother, delighting in the lives and futures of her grandchildren, who represent the next generation of their distinguished lineage.

Her Highness resides at the Engwenyameni Royal Palace, a place deeply connected to the heart of the Ndebele people. In her role as the Mother of the Ndebele Nation, she is revered not only as a leader but also as a symbol of nurturing strength and cultural pride. She is actively involved in the preservation of Ndebele customs and traditions, ensuring that the younger generations carry forward the rich cultural heritage that defines their identity. Her wisdom and compassion have earned her the love and respect of her community, as she continues to guide and inspire with grace and humility.

Throughout her life, Her Highness Letty Khabonina Mahlangu Mabena has exemplified the qualities of a true matriarch and leader. She is a beacon of resilience, an advocate for her people, and a beloved grandmother whose legacy will continue to shape the Ndebele Nation for generations to come. His Majesty King Makhosoke II is The Heir of the Ndebele Nation since 1986 and his Coronation was in the same year.
His Majesty is passionate about education and skills development and through His Foundation He has personally made sure that more than 100 learners obtained bachelors degrees. The education foundation has seen students obtain Masters degrees as well, their PHDs. His Majesty continues to be a part of other initiatives whose main aim is to uplift his people, his communities and South African at large.
